This is not the way John Mayer plays his song, rather, this is the approach I would have if I were to play it without a band. Let’s say if I’d perform it by myself, or if I’d play it by the campfire with my friends and family, this is how I’d do it.
One thing I always try to do when I find myself in scenarios like that, where I’m playing by myself or when there is no one to play the hook or the melody of the intro. I find a way to implement the hook into my chords, my rhythm part, instead of just strumming the chords away without that famous intro melody.
